National Fire Plan Funding For Community Protection In California

In California, agencies have pooled their National Fire Plan funding into a one-stop shop to help simplify the process of finding and applying for grants which improve California 's community wildfire preparedness. This one-stop shop is located on the internet and hosted by the California Fire Safe Council (FSC). The FSC hosts this web application site in cooperation with its fellow members of the California Fire Alliance.

Cal EMA / FEMA - Hazard Mitigation Grant Program

The Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) provides grants to State and local governments, Indian tribes or other tribal organizations, and certain non-profit organizations to implement long-term hazard mitigation measures after a major disaster declaration. Individual homeowners and businesses may not apply directly to the program; however a community may apply on their behalf. A FEMA-approved Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP) is required before funds can be approved for any project application activity. Local Fire Safe Councils should check with their City, County or Special District to verify if they are already covered under a LHMP, and if so, they can apply directly as a private non-profit for fire mitigation projects. For more information on this or other hazard mitigation grant programs, call the Hazard Mitigation Grants Branch Main number at (916) 845-8150.
